I started taking LO right away but until she was a month old, I wouldn't really let anyone (other than close family) hold or touch her. A good plan is to wear baby, like in a sling, that way ppl can't ask to hold and are less likely to want to touch if LO is on you
so y'all took them and kept them in your arms throughout service and had no problems? I'm hesitant about taking him to the nursery and letting others hold him.

We took DS to church for the first time at 5 weeks old, then again last Sunday. The first time I had to feed him halfway through. Last week, he was fine and slept the whole time. I didn't take him to the nursery though...with how cold it has been here, I don't want him around a lot of other children (half of which are probably sick or getting sick). I'd keep your baby with you during service if it's possible.
We've taken DS to church every Sunday since he was born. Our church doesn't have a nursery. If LOs get really fussy, the parents can take them downstairs where there is a little play area and a video feed of the service. DS usually sleeps through the service. Sometimes during the Bible study after church, DS gets hungry, but I don't have a problem with nursing in problem. I just use a nursing cover.
We don't mind having other people hold DS, and the members of our church are really good about washing their hands before holding him and avoiding all of us if they are sick. DH and I both sing in the choir, so we always ask someone to hold DS when the choir sings. Members practically fight for the chance.
I started taking DD to church the 2nd Sunday after she was born. I kept her in church with me until 3 months when she didn't want to just be held anymore and wanted to "play" a little more. Then she went into Nursery.
I kept her with me much longer than other moms did though. Most of them put their babies in by 2-3 weeks. I just wasn't comfortable being away from her that long.
(I should point out that there aren't many kids in our nursery right now, so that makes a difference. We on a regular basis have 4 babies and 2 toddlers.)
