1 year photo session

I'd like to have pro pics taken of DD for 1 year, but I'm not sure where to go or when to book the photographer (never did them before and I regret it now!).  Who are you using?  An individual that specializes in baby photography?  A major chain store?  Something else?  How far in advance did you have to book the photo session?  Thanks!

We are using an individual who did DDs newborn photos. I had to book a session in late July since her birthday is close to Christmas.

We are using an individual who has done all our pics. We usually have to book a couple of months in advance to work around her schedule and DH's work schedule.

I finally got pics done of DS, 9 days before he turns 11 months. I contacted a professional... but she wasn't very responsible, since it took us roughly 6 months or so to finally get them done! DH said early on we didn't need to get get professional pictures done, cause I'm the professional. But honestly, that's not the point... I wanted someone else to capture him and us three as a family. Anyway, I think depending on how much you can afford, I'd go with a professional, rather then a chain!

We are use a friend of a friend who is a photographer. She does anything and everything. Very laid back and is willing to do whatever crazy idea I can come up with. She's the one who took the pic in my siggy. I book her about a month in advance so that she and I have time to work out locations, ideas, props, etc. She charges about $150 for the photo shoot (usually about 1.5 to 2 hours), 20-30 edited images in B&W, Sepia and Color, plus all of the images taken during the shoot. Oh plus she gives us a photo release to have them printed where ever we'd like. It's a sweet deal! We are so lucky to have found her! We are doing DS first birthday photo shoot next week. (I need them in time for invites)

Luckily my brother in law does some hobby photography. He's really good though! We haven't done any pro pictures yet, but we're meeting him next Sunday afternoon for some family pics while the leaves are all colorful. My LO is almost 11 months.

We did ours yesterday...sort of...and just by chance it was a thing set up through a mommy and baby meetup group I'm part of.  Just great timing!

We did ours yesterday and I got a great deal through Living Social.  I only booked it a couple of weeks ago, but I think we were lucky to get squeezed in.  She was a professional and I have yet to see the results, but here's hoping.  She said she could photoshop out the leaf bits that were stuck to DD's face after she tried to eat them, so that has to count for something.  In retrospect, since my kid likes to eat nature (leaves, grass, mulch) a studio session might have been a better idea than outdoors...
