Understanding PPD

Should I still be concerned about PPD if I am only depressed away from my LO? I am not just talking sad, but full on anxiety and tears when I leave him at all. Is that still PPD? I never want to go out and will actually find any excuse to stay home. I don't even want to be around my husband ever and get jealous when other people hold my baby. Not sure if any of that is PPD, but I have never experienced that before.

Re: Understanding PPD

  • I don't know if that is considered PPD or not but I just wanted to let you know that I'm here for you! I too am suffering from PPD and it sucks! I think a lot of momma's are suffering in silence and I only wish we could all band together and help each other out!

  • I started taking Zoloft for PPD and it has made a huge difference.  I'm still just as sleep deprived, LO is still very fussy (though we are working on treating her reflux and feeding challenges) but I feel the dark cloud has lifted.  If you are concerned, speak to your OB or therapist, if you have one.

  • I'd say PPD or not you should talk to you Dr or a therapist. It always helps to get it out.

I don't mean to ask too personal a question, so feel free to tell me I'm being a nosey btich, but are you having any side effects from the Zoloft? I'm seeing a therapist and am considering starting Zoloft as well, but I'm super nervous about side effects. And even though I know it's safe for BFing, I'm terrified that it will somehow harm my baby.

And sorry to jack your thread, OP. I would talk to your doctor if I were you. It can't hurt to get a professional's opinion.

Zoloft is fairly well studied but it doesn't come without side effects. I started having hallucinations. It is a pretty uncommon side effect, but don't dismiss the risks, and learn what to expect before you start taking it.

  • Its not really PPD, its an anxiety issue. My SIL had the same thing after her LO was born. She is on a low dose of xanax to help. She was so anxious when she went to work, that her hair started falling out. She isn't cured, but she deals with it a whole lot better now. Talk to your family doc or OB

  • I agree with PPs remarking that it's more anxiety. Talk to your OB or a trusted doc. You don't have to feel this way, and I know it's miserable. :| GL to you!

  • Sounds more like anxiety. You should talk to your doctor.

  • I Would say anxiety or maybe being a ftm. I Would suggest Tallking to someone as its not normal to not want to spend time with ur dh or trust him with ur baby; unless there are real reasons not explained
