Some of you may know me from PGAL or PG>35. I was pregnant with my second son, due December 3rd, when my water broke at 30w1d on Sept 24th at 10pm. Baby Ashton was born at 32w3d after 15 days on complete hospital bedrest. He weighed in at 5lbs 10 oz and has done incredibly well. He was on the c-pap for one day at 0 oxygen, just to help him keep his little lungs inflated. He also had low blood sugars, so he is on a dextrose infusion iv, but the concentration has been decreased each day, as has the number of infusions a day. His blood sugars have been stable for over 24hrs now.
He was placed under the bili lights yesterday for his jaundice, but they said that should only be required for a couple of days. He started out with only 3ml feedings every 3hrs, but was at 21mls last night at his 9pm feeding. They are increasing by 3mls every 6hrs now (he is being fed via feeding tube every 3 hrs). I was able to hold him about 36hrs after his birth and changed his diaper for the first time yesterday. I also learned how to tube feed yesterday. My milk started to come in in the middle of the night last night, so he'll be getting that + formula today, which I am thrilled about.
Our little man is doing so well, that they are talking about transferring him to our local NICU in the next few days. This makes me so happy, as I am being discharged today.
I'm not really sure what to expect with a preemie, but it's nice to know all you ladies are in a similar situation and that it is likely one of you would be able to answer any questions I might have. I look forward to getting to know you all. A special hello to missag and BBM (I'm assuming you are both active on this board).
Re: Introduction....DS#2 came 8 weeks early
Congrats on the birth of your son, and welcome to the board!
My DS was born at 32 weeks as well, but was almost half the size of your LO due to IUGR. Our next door neighbor in the NICU had a son born just a few days before DS at 32 weeks though, about the same weight as your son, and is huge now! You would never know he was a preemie!
I know the NICU is a very scary and uncertain place in the beginning, so definitely come here with any questions! The moms on this board are full of great information.
That is so great that you've been able to hold him! Definitely do K-care if you haven't already...that was my favorite part about our NICU experience.

Hi I remember you from PgAL! Congrats on your son. Wow it sounds like he's doing really great! And he was great sized for his "age."
Being discharged and leaving LO in the NICU was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I'm so glad they are talking about transferring him to your local NICU. Are you able to stay nearby until then?
GL! Know that we are hear if you need to talk.
