Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Long afternoon naps

Lately DS has been talking long afternoon naps, like today was from about 12:30 till 4:30. He woke up to eat and now he's back asleep again at 5. His eating is normal. The only thing I can think is that we've been running errands in the afternoon and he sleeps well in his car seat. I hate waking him to take him out of his car seat when we get home but he just seems to sleep forever when I leave him in it. I'm just worried that if I let it continue this way it is going to start messing with his night sleep schedule and he won't sleep as long at night. Is it normal for 2 month olds to take long naps like this in the afternoon?

Re: Long afternoon naps

  • Normal. Just let him sleep when he wants, good sleep promotes good sleep. In a few months you will be wishing he would nap like this again!

  • DS doesn't sleep for stretches that long in the afternoon, but he does still sleep most of the day.  He wakes up every 2-3 hours to eat.  Once he's done eating, he plays for a little bit.  Then he's ready to go back to sleep.  He sleeps for 6-7 hours at night before starting his "daytime routine."

    This.

The more they sleep, the better they sleep. When DD was about that age, I took her out for the day to a farm with some friends and she was in her stroller all day. Because of fresh air and movement she slept the whole time (I woke her up 2x to eat). I was so worried she was going to be up all night, but she slept really great that night.
