What compartment to place "gel" laundry detergent in.

I made homemade liquid laundry detergent.  It quickly turned to a gel so I am not sure whether to put it in the liquid compartment, take the cup out and use it in the compartment that I usually put powders in or to just put it on top of the clothes themselves.  TIA!

I'd probably try where the powders go. Ours seems to force more water through there to ensure it all gets washed out.
