Finally sleeping through the night- I hope!

Ash finally slept through the night last night and the night before. For the first time EVER. This is the first time I have gotten a good nights sleep in at least 16 months. I expected this week to be horrible for sleeping because we finally decided to wean the middle of the night feedings starting tuesday.

Tuesday night was a nightmare and I only got a few hours sleep. I expected that to go on...but instead he slept all night. I had no idea he would accept the weaning after just one night. Just thought I would share. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Edited for spelling because apparently sleep didn't help that!

  • Congrats! As the mom of another toddler who has never STTN, I know how big of a deal this is for you!

Can I ask how you did the night weaning? Did you go cold turkey? Was it torture? It seems like your LO adapted quickly!

I have weaned DD from all daytime nursing, so all we have left are nights.Daytime weaning was easier than I thought -- we had four rough days, and on the fifth day (and ever since), she doesn't ask to nurse until after her bath. I am  planning on starting night weaning next week because I am over it. She wakes up every 2-3 hours to nurse from the time she goes to bed at 8 pm until she wakes up. I can't do it anymore, and after a few bad nights this week, I'm more than ready to wean.

We went cold Turkey. His pedi said to leave him a sippy of water in case he got thirsty, but no milk and no bottle (he weaned from BF at 9 months). He was not a fan of the water and the first night was rough. He cried when he woke up and I wouldn't give him a bottle. He eventually fell asleep, but would sleep for 5- 10 minutes and then fuss for 30 sec. to 2 min, and then go to sleep again. This went on form 3:30 to 5am. Thats when he finally slept for good, and I gave up on the hope of sleep and got up for the day.

I expected the same the next night, but it didn't happen. Good luck with weaning!

  • Aww, congratulations!!!

  • Congrats!  I give you credit for making it this long.  DD started STTN completely at 9 months (after a bit of sleep training and finding the right reflux meds) and I was about to go nuts.  I really need a whole nights sleep to function.

We have had a ton of sleep issues we have been addressing. STTN was at the end of my list! The light at the end of the tunnel is here finally.

  • Wow, congrats! You deserve some sleep, lady.

You have no idea! That first day I kept wanting to eat veggies and work out. It's crazy how much better sleep can make you feel!
