How to turn LOs schedule around

LO sleeps like a champ during the day and wakes every 4 hours pretty much like clock work...but at night, she wakes every 3 hours (even though she is eating the same amount each feeding as during the day) and doesn't sleep as soundly.  She moves her bowels at night and grunts a lot and seems over all uncomfortable (I asked her pedi about this and was told it is normal because of intestine immaturity still and could  be from something I eat) but she doesn't grunt like this during the day.  I would really like to switch her schedule around, is that even possible?  Would waking her every 3 hours during the day help her to maybe sleep longer at night?  I know they say never wake a sleeping baby, but this girl has it backwards lol  Any advice?

This is actually pretty normal for her age.  Remember to go by her adjusted age for stuff as a general guideline.  So basically she's acting the way a typical newborn would be acting, and a lot of newborns have their days and nights flipped for a bit.  I know it's rough - hang in there, though!  Eventually she'll figure things out.  Are you demand feeding now that she's home?

Yea, we are feeding on demand now.  She gained 5 oz from discharge to her pedi appt 48 hours later so the pedi said it was fine.  Did you see the post I posted to you BostonKisses?  A pic of Goose checking her out lol

  • You could try moving it to 3 hours during the day.  My LO was still sleeping quite a bit at that age so I would let her do one 4 hour stretch during the day (if she was napping, otherwise I tried to do at least 3.  It took my LO at least 3 months to start consolidating her night time sleep (~10lbs) and stop waking every couple hours.  Now, she goes 11-12 hours at night, but eats every 2 hours during the day to get enough ounces in.
