And I only say "before kids," because I don't want a bunch of "my kids" answers
If you still splurge on stuff after kids, by all means, let me know.
Since I'm still technically in the before kids realm of my life, I definitely splurge on experiences. Traveling, going out to nice dinners, going to shows, etc.
Re: Before kids, what did you splurge on?
Photography equipment.
Now after kids, I spend way to much on her wardrobe compared to mine. I am however good and don't really buy her toys or anything like that unless it is her birthday or Christmas.
Going out to eat. We did dinner out 2-3 nights a week at least.
I loved the random weekend trips on a whim before kids.
Purses, I love purses. And I used to get my hair highlighted, and we would go out to eat ... there was a lot we could do with the $200 a week that now goes to daycare. That is probably what I miss most about pre-baby, having money to spend on myself.
Everything, damn kid!
We like to eat out for different experiences. Going to concerts. Random weekends of traveling. Just about anything that could be last minute. Last minute friend gathering with catered food, endless wine and beer in the comfort of our home.
Weekend trips and dinner parties.
Still try to enjoy both, but things are a lot more complicated now

Clothes, shoes, and makeup.
Now I buy more cothes for her than I do for myself, but I still splurge on makeup.
LOL
My dog.
And food, wine, travel...but mostly on stuff for my dog. He still gets a fair amount, but unfortunately the budget is a bit more limited.

Ok, so maybe I can wait a little bit longer to get KTFU.
How long until do I have until I get kicked off this board?
Oh, I love the Casino.
If you lived closer, you could just have the ticket that H always buys for me even though I tell him to not buy me one.
It's an ongoing battle.
I spent a lot at Sephora and we went out to nice dinners fairly frequently. We also took more vacations. My last Mexican resort vacation was in November 2009
DH and I together: experiences, dinners, shows, etc.

Wine. I still buy this. Splurge? Meh, I consider it a necessity.
Travel. We used to go away at least 3x a year plus random long weekends. Since B was born we've done 2 vacations and no long weekends.
Eating out. We used to go out at least 2x a weekend to nice restaurants. If we go out it's maybe once or twice a month these days at decidedly less nice places.

I think this was a bad thread for me to start.
::backs out slowly::
Don't let people scare you. I really don't even care about the shoes anymore I mean, I go shopping and it does nothing for me.
I had 5 horses, went to fancy restuarants, wore awesome shoes.... Now I have 2 horses, eat where there's a kid's menu and it's just not possible to chase a toddler in 4" heels, so I wear cheap and comfy shoes.
Movies at the Alamo Drafthouse (we went all the time, and always ate & drank there), film festival, fabric, art supplies, skin care & makeup, clothes, shoes.
Now: just skin care & makeup. I buy fewer clothes now, but buy better quality. I buy mostly comfy shoes now, because of my job.
