Canadian Snacks

I know this has been discussed before but a friend wants to know what kind of snacks and chocolate bars are distinctly Canadian.  So I figured here was a good place to ask!

Re: Canadian Snacks

  • Caesars, buttertarts, smarties (?), poutine, ketchup chips
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • I want to say dill pickle chips, too. But I think I remember seeing either ketchup or pickle chips here in the States at one point, though obviously it's not common.

Canadian Smarties are also chocolate, not pure sugar candies like ours.

I've seen both here.  Ketchup is rarer but I always see dill pickle chips.  Maybe it's a regional thing.

Yes, completely different candy. I googled what you were talking about and I think those are Rockets here.

I didn't realize until reading the reply's on my friends fb post that US smarties are rockets.  That's just not right.  Rockets are rockets not smarties!  Smarties are chocolate!

Completely agree! Smarties are so much better than M&Ms but much closer to those than Rockets.

  • I don't think Americans have Cadbury chocolate, though Creme Eggs are starting to infaltrate. Am I right or am I totally loopy?

    Smarties are British

    aren't they?

Originally, yes. British Smarties kick azz on Canadian. The orange Smarties taste like orange. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Also, no Kit Kat, right? Coffee Crisp? And I think you guys are also deprived of Old Dutch Mexican Chili Chips.

  • We have Cadbury. We also have KitKat but in Canada I think Nestle produces them and in the US it's Hershey.
