CD fail

So I feel like a failure. I spent around $600 on CD stuff and we tried it for a little over 24 hours with no success. Henry peed and pooped through all his sleepers and swaddlersacs. He also didn't have a nap or sleep well. I was so tired, I started crying...so I switched him back to sposies. It is possible that he is still too little as we have not had him weighed since his 1 month appointment (8lbs 8oz). The diapers fit 10 lbs and I just assumed since he outgrew newborn sposies he must be big enough. We are going to try again once we have doctor confirmation on the weight. I hope they work...but also feel so relieved I get to go back to sposies. Also it was probably the wrong time to try them since he is in his 6 week growth spurt and cluster feeding like crazy.

Re: CD fail

  • did you follow the prewashing instructions for your CDs?

    how are you washing them?

it's possible it is a weight issue.  how do they fit him around his legs and waste?  snuggly or loose?

    what kind are you using?

  • I prewashed them 5 times following the directions (and hung the shells to dry). We're using grovia ai2's. We were having poo leaks through his legs and pee down his back. I had the diapers as tight as they would go and you could still stick your finger through his legs...the weird thing was he also got marks on the inside of his legs and tummy from the snaps.

  • I'm sorry mama I know it's difficult in the beginning tryin to figure it all out. I agree with pp that they may not be fully prepped. I believe the grovia are cotton so they need many washes to become completely absorbent. I personally used the newborn grovia and hated them, had leaks every time she wore them but when I used my prefolds or bg they were fine. My lo just started fitting into her one size diapers at 7 weeks and most likely ten pounds. I have heard some people's Lo's take even longer if they are skinny. I would say keep trying when your comfortable and possibly try a different brand. If you find another brand works better you can re sell the ones you don't use any more that way it's not a waste. Good luck!

  • We've been using prefolds in over Grovia covers right now and they fit great. He is a big boy but we have been using them for a month without a single leak. Maybe give it another week or so and try again. Also, prefolds are cheap and really easy to use so if you want you could try some of those.

  • My diapers are supposed to fit at 8 lbs, they didn't fit until LO was at least 10 lbs.  So it doesn't always go by the weight.  Also, not all diapers will fit every baby, but don't be discouraged.  Go to the CD board and ask questions.  They are wonderful, helpful ladies!

  • Hey should be a bit snug around the leg openings. The first time I put DS in cloth, there was pee everywhere. I tried again 2 weeks later and have had few leaks since.

This. Sounds like they are still too big for him. Even if he's the recommended weight, it may not fit him if his legs are too skinny. You may have to use disposables until he gains some more weight.
