Zantac not working

My DS is 5 weeks old and started on Zantac 5 days ago and he is still miserable.  I know they say to give it two weeks but I really don't see things turning around.  I don't know what else to do for him.  He cries and screams in discomfort/pain and I end up crying with him because I just can't take it anymore and he is breaking my heart.  Anyone else had zantac not work for them?  Any advice?

I don't typically post here but I can relate.  My twins are 3 weeks old and have been on Zantac for at least 2 weeks.  Called the pedi because my son sounds like yours as far as the discomfort/pain.  She switched his dose from .5 ml 3x/day to 1.9 ml 2x/day 30 mins before he eats.  I'll give that another 2 weeks but I have a feeling we'll have to switch to something else.  Good luck!

I know each baby is different and what works for one isn't the solution for the other, but my daughter was diagnosed with silent reflux around 4 weeks and Zantac did nothing. It turned out she didn't have reflux at all but a milk intolerance and since switching to soy formula she has had no discomfort. I would talk to your pediatrician about other alternatives if the Zantac doesn't provide relief.

Zantac did NOTHING for my LO or most of my friend's LOs. Unfortunately you probably have to wait like the doctor said, but call back and check. Prilosec worked wonders for us and it comes in generic, so it's not too spendy. They always try Zantac first, but a lot of times it doesn't work.
