Cloth Diapering

BG 4.0 at night

So, little one is eating a bunch at night, and peeing like crazy. We're soaking a BG insert, with a little Joey hemp insert. What do you stuff your BG with for overnights? LO is 5 months, and 15ish pounds.

Thanks!

  • I'm no help because I use the same thing! I'm interested to see the responses though bc DS is waking up with some pretty soaked inserts. I was thinking two hemp inserts and no mf next ?

  • We are currently doing the same thing and we are doing okay so far...I asked a similar question a few days okay because I wanted to be ready when we start leaking at night. A few ladies said that fitters with a hemp or bamboo insert along with a wool cover seems to be bulletproof at night. I think the sbish fitters get rave reviews on here for absorbency. I haven't gotten mine yet but I did order them so I can try them when we need them. Good luck!

  • We use a blueberry hemp and microfiber insert and a joeybunz or a baby kicks hemp underneath in a pocket and that usually gets us by with no leaks. That or two imagine bamboo pre folds but then bus butt is HUGE and it's hard to find a cover that fits over that and stays tight in the legs.

  • Love our 4..0s for overnight. We just had to switch out the NB insert for a Kawaii one. We use that along with the regular BG insert.

  • I stuff an overnight pocket with a Flip organic insert and a large premium Joey Bunz. BG 4.0 pockets don't fit well on DD with that much stuffing (hello, leg leaks), though, so I use a Kawaii Square Tab Aplix.

It's possible, though, that at some point a pocket diaper isn't going to work for overnight no matter how it's stuffed. I'm nearing that point with DD and we are exploring fitteds with wool (since fitteds with a PUL cover aren't always sufficient).

  • Mine started leaking at 4 months because he still nurses every 23 hours at night. I tried adding a Best Bottoms hemp doubler, Apple Bottoms hemp and Thirsties bamboo, and none if those worked. I only tried those because they were available at my local CD store. A Thirsties fitted, Thirsties Bamboo prefold trifolded in the pocket and a Thirsties cover is working right now. I'm sewing wool and fleece Soakers, though, so we have more breath ability.
  • I switched over to the Kawaii overnight heavy wetter in snaps and use 3 joeybunz hemp inserts.  Which by the way are saturated by morning.  That kid can pee!   With that much stuffing the BG had too big of leg gaps.  With the Kawaii I can put in four hemps and the elastic still reaches her legs no problem, they are wider in the crotch.

We are also using 3 inserts at night with a Kawaii diaper. I use 3 of the MF Kawaii inserts in a regular Kawaii snaps diaper. No leaks, and DD is a tummy sleeper. The diaper is super bulky though, so I've ordered some hemp inserts to experiment.

  • We use a HempBabies Bigger Weeds insert, plus the BG newborn MF insert. We've used that combination since he was 4-5 months and it works great. Puffier than his daytime diapers, but not too bad.

  • When DD was 5 months old and became a tummy sleeper, I reached a point with BGs (and other pockets) for overnight where no matter how I stuffed, how I snapped, or what I stuffed them with we always had leaks.  We moved to fitteds with wool covers and haven't had any leaks since.
