Face rash

my ds is a little over 3 months (2 months adjusted) and has a bright red rash on both cheeks and on his chin. It looks just like windburn and there is dry, flaky skin. He has definitely not been out in any kind of wind that could do this kind of damage! I've tried washing with johnsons and johnsons and then eucerin moisturizer but it never changes. I even tried not washing for a little to see if that helped, but no. It isnt on his body anywhere else, so I'm not thinking it's an allergy. It looks like it's only in the spots where moisture could be trapped under his paci. Could it be irritation from breast milk? He is ebf. Any ideas?

Re: Face rash

  • My ds gets a red rash on his cheeks when he is going through a teething spurt. It's just from extra drool and him constantly shoving everything in his mouth. I just dry it with a soft cloth diaper throughout the day. Wipe with a wet rag during bath time and use lotion on it 2x a day. It comes and goes.

We changed babywash to Johnson's from Aveeno a few weeks ago. I started noticing dry, scaly patches on DS's face and neck. I immediately switched back to Aveeno and started using Aveeno's baby eczema cream on the dry spots. It cleared up in 3 days.

Same here. As soon as we switched to Aveeno, rash cleared up and her skin is very smooth now.

  • My LO had the same kind of thing, very dry red patches on his cheeks and forehead. I think it was from all the drool he was smearing all over himself from teething. Pedi suggested using baby lotion and a little vaseline to lock in the moisture every night and especially after a bath. Cleared it right up!

    or aquafor, too

  • My LO has that. The Dr said it's eczema. I can only bathe him once a week, I can't use soap on him, and I can't use anything with fragrance. I use Aveno baby eczema lotion and am constantly applying it to his face. I also use Johnson's Natural lotion.

Dr also said it can be a dairy allergy. I bf and also have to formula supplement due to supply issues. She may make me cut dairy out of my diet, and switch to soy formula. We will see at the 4 month appt.

    Good luck!
