Adoption

New to the forum

Hi!

My DH have been trying and going through IF but we are thinking about moving on with the adoption process. We went to an information meeting last week at a local agency but it's very small it's a pretty long average wait (1-3 years for domestic, likely African-American). We are looking right now at domestic adoption and have been getting information from some of the national agencies. Right now, we are leaning towards American Adoptions. Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with this agency? We will be starting our homestudy process as well and have our friends lined up to write rec letters but if anyone has any suggestions we could pass along that would be great as well!

I appreciate any help or suggestions :)

My advice is to take your time looking at the different types of agencies.  Large vs small. Local vs national.  American Adoptions has a good reputation but some feel they are expensive.

  • Welcome! If your state allows it, you can also look into doing an adoption through an attorney. We originally thought we would use an agency, but ended up going through an attorney. PM me if you want more details.
