DD won't sleep in bed...help?

A few months before DD2 arrived (probably was around April) we moved DD1 into a new room with a twin sized bed.

My problem is that she NEVER sleeps in the bed. She slept in it at first...for maybe a month and then started sleeping on the floor. At first I was fine with it b/c I thought it was just all the change with having a new baby. But now here we are, almost 6 months after moving her into her bedroom and she still insists on sleeping on the floor.

I know I should just be happy she is sleeping. She sleeps just fine, so part of me is like why mess with a good thing. But, I would like to get her sleeping in her bed. I ask her every night where she wants to sleep and she always says floor...so that is where she goes.

Do I do anything? Talk to her pedi? We have tried moving her after she falls asleep, but she usually wakes up and goes to the floor.

Re: DD won't sleep in bed...help?

  • I might try the mattress on the floor and if that doesn't help after a few days then I would just let her keep sleeping on the floor.

  • If she is sleeping, I would just leave it alone!  I went through a phase in my childhood (I was about 6), when I kept falling out of my bed.  So my parents made me another bed on the floor (blanket, pillow, etc) and sometimes if I fell out of my bed, I would just sleep down there.  I grew out of it as I'm sure your daughter will.
  • I would let her be for now.  DD slept on the floor instead of her toddler bed from 15 months until just recently.  We moved to a new house and bought her a new bed and bedding and she just suddenly took to the bed.  We still have her blanket on the floor that she slept on previously just in case.  We didn't want to force too much change on her at once.

  • ITA with the PPs....if she's sleeping, let her go.  She's not going to be sleeping on the floor when she's 15.  I have a friend whose little boy would do the same thing and she just let him go too.  Pretty sure he's back in a bed now.
