Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If your LO is STTN.

If your LO is STTN please tell me your daily routine. Mine is currently waking up at 2 and 5 to eat. I am trying to get her to cut out her 2am feeding. She is EBF and goes to bed around 9 or 10 and is up at 2am then wakes to eat around 5am and then does not wake up for the day until 9 or 10am. I am going back to work next week and want to start her on a better routine. Any tips on how to get her to sleep longer stretches.

  • 2 wake ups a night is great for 2 months old. I would encourage an earlier bedtime. Often, overtired babies wake more frequently.

  • Other than making sure they nurse plenty throughout the day and before bed, I don't think you can do anything to make them sleep longer.  They call the shots at this stage.
  • Both of what pp said

I thought about that this morning. She has been showing signs of being tired around 8 these last couple of nights I'm going to try and start the bedtime routine earlier tonight. Thanks

  • Her routine will probably change when you go back to work.  Will you have to take her to daycare?  I'm assuming you'll be getting her up earlier than 9 or 10, which is what you said she sleeps to now, so her sleep schedule will shift from that.  Just do the wait and see game and see how she changes.  I've been back to work for 5 weeks and my LO's schedule is still a little different every day.  There's not much you can do but follow her lead.

  • Just wanted to chime in here and say you're doing really well. My guys are about the same age as yours and they go down around 9 but then are up at 12, 3, and between 5 and 6. They don't sleep well after 5 am and are up and down till about 7, when they don't sleep at all. I've heard an earlier bedtime will help as well. We tried a 7:30 pm bedtime but that wasn't working well for us. The 8:30 worked better--they seemed to have more of a sense then that it was night. I hope every night when they go to bed that will be the night when they sleep for a long stretch for the 1st time!  Hang in there and I'm sure their sleep will get better and better.

  • Our little guy is 10 weeks old and goes to bed at 8 or 9. He sleeps seven to nine hours in a row, eats and sleeps another two or three hours before being up for the day. All his daytime naps are less than an hour, he's tired but really fights sleep. He is still the one dictating his schedule, we do our best to get him to nap before he's over tired.
  • My boy has been sttn since 6 weeks.  I'm so lucky. At 6:30pm I start our routine.  I bathe him, nurse him, etc. By 7-7:30 he's really sleepy and rarely fights going to bed. He wakes up between 5-6 to nurse, which is the time I get up for the day. We leave the house by 7:30am and I top him off just before we leave for daycare.

Going to bed early sucks because I don't get to see him that long after I pick him up from daycare, but he gets really cranky and tired if we don't start our routine on time.

I think you should try putting your little one to bed a little earlier and always at the same time.  That may help.

  • Tell me about her daytime. How does she nap? How long are the naps? How often? How does she fall asleep (rocking? put down awake?)?

FTR, DD2 currently eats at 10:30 pm and then at 7:30 am, sleeping in between.

Just feed your newborn. 2 times a night for a 2 month old is fantastic. Some babies are still eating every 2-3 hours at night at that age.

You should not try to drop a night feeding that young, especially when they are a newborn.

    Exactly.

This is pretty much our exact schedule, as well.

  • My advice is to adjust your expectations. It's normal for babies to wake to eat through (and beyond) the first year. Two feedings/night is amazing for a two month old!
