Playtime

I haven't seen a post lately about what folks are doing now with LOs in terms of play. I am  always trying to think of new things to do with DD and would love suggestions.

We spend a lot of time on her playmat.  She likes to grab and bat at the toys.  We especially like the ones at the link below.

We sing lots of songs.  Some of our favorites are old macdonald, wheels on the bus, and head shoulders knees and toes. We also read books.

I will hold her rattles down by her feet and she loves to kick them. She also has this little soccer ball that has lots of places that make it easy for her to grab it so she likes to hold on to that.  I prop her up to give her practice sitting up.  Tummy time of course and she recently has started to be interested in looking at herself in the mirror.

I also get ideas at the site productiveparenting.com. What types of things are you doing for playtime?

Re: Playtime

  • We use our activity mat a lot as well- DS loves grabbing the toys and trying to put them in his mouth. Also, he has teething rings, rattles, and a tummy time mirror that he likes to look at himself in. We do bedtime stories. He loves sitting in his exersaucer. When I'm cooking or washing bottles, I put LO in his exersaucer and pull him in the kitchen so I can talk to him as I'm doing chores. I'll also put him in his swing and give him toys to play with while he's swinging. I turn the tv to the toddler music channel while we're in the living room, so there's always that fun background music.

  • We dance and sing a lot. LO is a fan of LMFAO and What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction. We also read a lot, his books and mine. We make faces in the mirror, we go for walks, we look out the window. Lately he has been enjoying a bead maze we have. He can almost push the beads the length of one of the wires!

  • DS couldn't care less about his playmat, but he has started loving to sit in his high chair while I work in the kitchen. I will put a few toys on the tray where he can grab him, and he makes a game of trying to get various things in his mouth. When we do tummy time, I put a quilt in the floor and lay down with him. He loves to "fly" on my shins. Another favorite of his is when I do air push-ups with him, and he loves to stand on my belly while I announce that he is the tallest baby in the world in an overly dramatic voice. He has started to enjoy his Bumbo seat, too. He's still a bit small for his new jumperoo, but he likes to hang out in it for a few minutes and just look at all the cool things. You can almost see him plotting which thing he's going to grab first when he's big enough to reach them.

This is too cute! Also, I should get her high chair out. She might enjoy hanging out in it now.
  • To make tummy time more fun, I lay on my back and lift my legs, knees bent at a 90 degree angle. I rest DD on my shins and lift her up & down. She loves it! She lifts her head really high and laughs & squeals. It's fun for her & I get a little ab workout  : )

  • My LO plays in her excersaucer a lot, we read books, play on her exercise mat, sing songs, watch cartoons, play peek a boo, do tickle games, and just talk a lot!
