I just have a question.  I know it's so early for me, but my doctor said we would need to wait at least 6 months to a year before TTC again.  We don't even know the cause yet of my loss and this was my first loss.  That timeframe seems like an eternity.  What have other loss moms been told about how long they can wait before TTC?

Hi Meli, we lost my daughter (first pregnancy) at 31 weeks with no cause. My doctor told us to wait one full cycle before trying again. I would always err on the side of do what your doctor says, but for what it's worth, some women on this board have been given longer timelines but have then asked for a follow up appointment before that time was up and were cleared by the doc. So if you think you are ready sooner, I would say make an appointment with your doc and see what she says.

Meli- I lost my daughter at 24 weeks. My doctor said we had to wait 6 months- I think she suggested that because she didn't think we would be emotionally ready. When we asked her about it and told her we wanted to try sooner than that because it's really the only thing that gives us hope she said to wait 12 weeks. We have an appointment with the high risk doctor the end of this month and will probably start trying in November right at 12 weeks. Good luck and sorry for your loss.

Thanks. I'm going to talk to my doctor when we are ready and I hope to have his support.  I just know I will be ready sooner than 6 months.  Hopefully he can tell me the reason behind the long wait, I'm sure a lot of it has to do with being emotionally ready.

We had a term loss and it was our first pregnancy- we were told to wait for 3 normal pp cycles. We waited for 4 for emotional reasons and that ended up being 6 mos pp. We ended up having a m/c so I'm glad we waited until we felt we could manage another loss ok.  I would talk to your doctor about why they are saying 6 mos to a year. GL!
