Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Suddenly night waking?

DS has been a great sleeper from the start - he's been STTN since about 3 months. Until about 2 weeks ago. He had his first stomach bug followed by a cold and the emergence of a top tooth, so I was blaming everything on that... but its continuing and the 2nd top tooth doesn't appear to be breaking through so maybe this is still part of it but I'm just wondering if anyone else has gone through this. The last 2 nights he's woken up 2-3 times, starts crying and sits right up in his crib. If I catch him before he gets in full swing crying I can just lay him back down, give him his binky, and he'll go back to sleep w/ some shushing. Anyone else experience this? He's also been waking up when DH leaves for work, which is before we usually get up for the day... I'm worried b/c DH's shift is going to move super early, like he'll leave for work around 4am.. and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to help him stay asleep. DS stays in our room and unfortunatley our living space/bedrooms are all on one level so the noise is hard to avoid. Should I try a noise machine? TIA for any tips!

Re: Suddenly night waking?

  • Yes, DD has been doing more night wakings too.  It's tough b/c she won't let me put her back down unless she's completely asleep, and even then she still cries sometimes.  I've been trying to get her back down and then bringing her into bed with me if she doesn't fall asleep within 30 minutes.  I need some sleep too!  I think  it's a combination of teething plus learning new activities plus adjusting to more solids during the day (and getting more milk at night).  So lots happening.  You might try a noise machine or a night light, but also be patient!
