Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Reflux

Ugh - my little guy has reflux and it is really frustrating! I can tell he is uncomfortable and it is making it tough on me also. It seems to be the worst after his 4am feeding (of course). He gurgles and grunts and spits up. I have done a few things so far which have definitely helped, but I would like to transition him to his crib but don't feel comfortable doing so yet because he freaks out when he spits up and so I prefer him sleeping in his bassinet next to my bed so I can get to him quickly.

Here is what I have done so far:

Feeding him a bit less at his 4am feeding since this is when he has the most trouble

Burp him really good and keep him sitting up for about 30 minutes after eating

Dr put him on baby zantac

He sleeps in elevated bassinet

Wedged blanket underneath him so he is slightly leaning to the right

Any other ideas? Thanks!

Re: Reflux

  • How long has he been on Zantac? L started her zantac around 6 weeks and we pretty much saw immediate results. I know it can take up to 2 weeks for results but just wondering if it's the right medication for him? I know a lot of babies end up on something different. Hope he starts feeling better soon, sounds like you are doing everything you can to help out.

  • Thank you both for responding. He has been on the Zantac since Oct 1st. It seems to help right when we give it to him - actually, he seems to get immediate relief... But, it doesn't help long term. Only until the next feeding.
