VBAC

What should I ask the dr?

My current ob said that depending on how I was cut last time (she wasn't my ob for last delivery) she would consider a vbac with the next pregnancy.  But now I think I'm switching to an OB that delivers at a hospital I delivered at last time b/c of the level III nicu.  I called today to make sure that the ob I was interested in is available - but totally blanked on asking about VBACs.

I'm just wondering if this is something I should ask about before seeing the ob or at the first appointment.  I'm also wondering what specific questions I should ask relating to vbac's.  Any suggestions?

Re: What should I ask the dr?

  • I called around to find a new OB after my current thought I was being silly with wanting to VBAC. I essentially called offices to see who was pro VBAC and then did research online and called to do a meet and greet with the OBs.  The link below is what I used as questions to ask.

  • It would probably help out a lot to get a copy of your records from your first pregnancy (specifically your operative report), so you'll be prepared with a new provider.

I would ask how many VBACs they do a year, what percentage of their patients have successful VBACs, if there are any limits to be able to VBAC with them, how long you can stay pregnant (41-42 weeks is ideal). hth!

  • Thank you.  The ob I'm looking at now assisted with my first c-section and my records will be with that practice, so that will help.

If she is part of the same practice, could your old OB potentially be on call and the one in charge when you go into labor for your VBAC?  Just something to think about even if this one particular OB is VBAC friendly.
