PUMPKIN FEST!

Ok, well it really wasn't a fest, but I went to this restaurant tonight because we had a Groupon that was about to expire and they were having Pumpkin Fest!

You get 5 different types of pumpkin beer (one was actually a pumpkin cider) and a chicken pumpkin mole taco, pumpkin ravioli and a pumpkin s'more.

H and I split it and it was awesome!

I love pumpkin.

Pumpkin pumpkin pumpkin.

Re: PUMPKIN FEST!

  • Ohhh I thought this was going to be about the pumpkin patch in Lincolshire and I was going to ask if it was any good because we were thinking of taking DS this weekend, lol.

    Where was this?!

It was at Silver Cloud in Wicker Park.

Yes, L&E is awesome.  So awesome.

We've been a couple times, but it's so busy that it's hard to want to wait.  But we have had some great experiences there.

Mrswindycity...are you talking about Didier Farms?

Yep. We were looking for something pretty close to the city and this seemed like a good option. Yay or nay?

Wine-o, we're going to L&E on Saturday for the first time and I think we're just going to get there really early and do it  up senior citizen style so we don't have to wait too long.

That is the way to do it.  And I recommend doing a bunch of small plates and then just doing an entree to split (if it's just two of you).

We've always had 4 when we've went, but the small plates are delicious and I highly recommend them.

I love sharing when I go out to eat.  That way I get to try more stuff.

  • Thanks for the info about Didier! Yeah, he probably won't care too much about the pumpkins and will probably be more into the rides and such, anyway. Mostly I just want donuts.

We're going to L&E with at least 1 other couple, possibly 2. But I would get the roasted marrow bones with shallot bacon jam no matter what, because...please.

4-6 people will be perfect.  I would recommend a bunch of the small plates (and yes, the marrow is amazing!  And get the meatballs...you might have to get 2 orders for 6 people) and then maybe 2-3 entrees to share.

Unless you aren't sharers.  Then do what you want.  Ha.

Everything is really good.  We even ordered the vegetarian dish and it was awesome.

What's your favorite restaurant in the city?

Other Chicago people can answer as well.

I really love Le Colonial.  The atmosphere and the food is just lovely.  And we've never had a server that wasn't amazing.

    Jealous.

  • I have no idea what my favorite restaurant is! What sucks is even the ones I LOVE we rarely go to again (or even if we do, not very frequently) because we don't go out as often any more, and when we do we are always interested in trying new places - and I keep a list on evernote (totally not kidding) of places I want to try that is so huge.

I really love Naha, and MK, too. We've had great dinners at Boka, Blackbird, the Bristol. I could go on. The most recent new place we tried was Acadia, and it was fab. I've never been to Le Colonial! :::opens up evernote:::

I really want to go to Goosefoot. It's close to us, but there are no reservations available ever.

Naha is awesome.  Haven't been to MK or Boka.  Loved Blackbird (Publican was great too, have you been there?) and just recently went to Bristol and had two of the most rich and amazing appetizers ever (Smoked Chicken hearts and the raviolo with the egg yolk).  Haven't even heard of Acadia.  Will definitely look it up.  And yes...Goosefoot.  It's kind of our arch nemesis.  We want to go so badly, but can't get reservations ever.  I did just babysit for our friends because they went there for their anniversary and they said it was amazing and highly recommended it.  Eventually we will get in.

My boss is a big foodie and takes us out for lunch for anniversaries, birthdays and for a holiday meal.  So I've been to tons of awesome restaurants because of that.  Le Colonial is a favorite because of him taking us there.  It's French Vietnamese, but I love it because everything we have ever had is just really good and a quality dish.  I've yet to be unhappy.

I do think that I've tried out a ton of restaurants now and it's hard to choose a favorite one, but I'll go back to Le Colonial whenever someone would want to go.

Any favorite dives?  We love Yuzu for Sushi and Robata Grill.  And of course it's BYOB.  You can eat everything and spend $25/pp.  Love it.

  • Yeah, I'm looking at the Le Colonial menu now and it looks good! NOTED.

When we're just sticking to our hood, we usually go to Los Nopales (BYOB, authentic Mexican) - though there are a couple nicer restaurants near us that we really like too (Sola and Browntrout). There's also a good (and CHEAP) Filipino place by us called Isla Filipino. When I lived in Lakeview, I loved Casbah Cafe (though I haven't been there in a while). And when I was in Roscoe Village we ended up at Frasca a lot because they have half priced wine on Wednesdays. I wouldn't consider them dives or anything, just cheaper than the standard places we go when we "go out." Hah.

  • Sounds so delicious. I want a pumpkin fest.

    Kicks rocks

I do love Sola.  And my dinner club just went to Frasca recently.

I feel like we could talk restaurants and food for hours.  Maybe we should meet up sometime.  Or not.  No pressure.  ::laughs nervously::

Our area is great (West Town) because new restaurants love to open up here.  Leopold, Branch 27, Mexique, Ruxbin, Green Zebra (that's been around a while), Arami.

Acadia looks phenominal.  I'll have to ask H about it and see if he's seen anything on Eater or any of his 100 blogs he reads about food.

There is a reason I need to lose weight.  So much good food here.

  • Pumpkin beer is good, but a pumpkin s'more was awesome.

  • Yeah, we should! Do you work downtown? Maybe we could do lunch one day. I suppose this is better for a PM, huh?

  • I love scotch. Scotch scotch scotch. Here it goes, down to my belly...

  • I'm totally jealous! Though to be fair, I've had so much pumpkin already, I am worried I might burn myself out on the pumpkin flavor!
