throwing toys

DS already has a great arm and whips small plastic balls across the room. In addition to that, he likes to dump his larger toys over. I am sure its normal curiosity. Today our DC provider mentioned how he tosses toys. She wasnt saying it rudely, just letting me know she has had to redirect him bc there are smaller kids around. Have you had this experience with LO? I am trying to teach him gentle, easy, etc.

Re: throwing toys

  • Oh yeah, my LO started throwing early and still likes it. We say "no throw!" if it's something he shouldn't throw. We allow him to throw balls and stuffed animals, but not hard things like blocks. For a long time he would wind up to throw and then we'd say "no throw!" and he'd put it down, but then immediately pick it up again and repeat several times. Now he's finally stopped doing it so much. I don't think it's a huge deal, but just don't encourage it. We continue to work on "gentle" with him, especially around the dog. He can be a rough and tumble kid.

  • I like the idea of "no throw". Thanks for responding.

  • We have had the same problem, including throwing sand at DC. We have worked with DS on hard vs soft, and that it's ok to throw soft things (not at people unless they are ready)' but it's not ok to throw the hard ones.
