Babies: 0 - 3 Months

anyone using alementum?

Would like to know if anyone is using this and if so what has your experienc been like? My guy still is spitting up and he is also on Zantac for reflux. Aslo, his stool is super loose and stinky. lol Though i am told that this does cause stinky baby. :-) I have tried other formulas, but he seemed somewhat colicy and this was recomended. It has helped I think for this issue.

  • I use it, and it was night and day for both of my babies... My first was  colic and my second has reflux... I could tell the difference within 24 hours of switching!

  • We used nutramagin with DS1 (enfamil's version of hypoallergenic) because he had a dairy allergy and soy intolerance.  It's really expensive and yes, does kind of smell.  We switched to soy formula as soon as DS' stomach was mature enough to handle it (4ish months).

It's only something I would use if it's the only thing they could handle.  But whatever it takes to make LO happy is worth it!

  • We put DD on it as per the pedi as she has severe reflux but it didn't make any difference, she was still vomiting every feed. It did help with her stomach gas though. However we now have her on Similac for spit up which has the added rice starch. This has helped tremendously with the vomiting but now the stomach gas is back. Nothing's perfect I guess

  • We used it then had to switch to Nutramigen. My pedi and GI specialist said it won't stop the spit nor will the Zantac. We were recommended to add rice to the formula. Honestly sometimes that helps and sometimes it doesn't.

  • We used it from 8 weeks through age 1 with DS1.  It was a god send.  He had some pretty bad allergies and couldn't digest cow's milk protein.  He also had reflux.  I would say it took a good week for us to see marked improvement after switching to it, but then he was a whole new baby.  As PP said it won't stop the spit up from reflux, nor will Zantac, but they should both help with the pain baby feels when he/she spits up.  As far as loose stools, give it time.  As I recall DS's were loose for a short time after switching.  Then he got constipated, before finally regulating.  It just took a while for his bowel to get used to the new formula.

    Good luck!!
