Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Did anyone go for a third?

Hi All,

We have 2, wonderful boys. A 5 year old and 2 year old. Life is great and we are extremely happy and blessed.

DH and I have decided to go for number 3 and this was our first month trying. It was exciting getting the thermometer and chart out again!

We are nervous about it, but excited too. We have a minivan and a 4 bdrm home so we should be good as far as that goes. I know there will be many adjustments that we didn't expect though. I've found people give much different reactions to hearing we are going for a third than when it was the second; a second was expected but people have no problem saying "Why!? You have 2 already though", when told we'll most likely have a third. It's irritating but makes me wonder sometimes why the surprise/disapproval?

There are lots of families around here with 3 kids so its definitely not out of the ordinary. We just feel our family isn't complete yet and have room in our hearts for one more, should we be so blessed.

Has anyone else decided to go for a third? What are your feelings about it? If you have had a third, how was the transition for you?

Thanks for any advice or info!

Re: Did anyone go for a third?

  • We just had our 3rd 6 weeks ago and I have found this transition easier than 2. I am not sure why people think having 3 or 4 kids is crazy. My DH always says good people need to have more kids. I just ignore the crazy comments.

  • We decided to start trying for our 3rd when my girls were 5 and 2......I got pregnant with twins! I just had boy/girl twins 7 weeks ago! Life is hectic,  but good!
  • Wow! Thanks for the encouragement.

I had heard going from 2 to 3 wasn't too bad, but wondered if it was wishful thinking! It's so good to know that there many families that choose to go for it and love it!

Congrats to the poster who had twins! How exciting!
  • We did!

My 3rd is 2 months old, and is our 1st daughter. My 2 boys adore her! It has been the easiest transition yet because my boys play together so well (they are 2 and 4) so  I have lots of time to tend to the baby.

We, too, got a lot of comments and now that we have a girl (which was NOT the reason we tried for a 3rd) people expect us to be done. We may go for a 4th in a few years ;)

  • We just had our third. He's 4 weeks old. Our girls 8 5 love him. The transition as far as number if children has been good. We got a few negative comments about having a third but I didn't care. DH and I have been planning on four since before we were married. So whenever we go for 4 I'll be hearing more comments. But I don't care. While it us annoying its no one else's business as long we're able to provide for the children we bring into the world. GL!
  • My first is 2.5 months old now and I am just in love with being a mom. It feels so natural to me! I wasn't expecting that to be the case at all. Not at all. I am very much a career oriented independent type person, and I was nervous about having a baby because I thought it might be something I wasn't really cut out for and might regret, although I knew I wanted to have a baby (if that makes any sense). Now that I have one, I want a bunch! I am 34 and my DH is 37 though so we have to get going pretty quick! I am thinking we will have 3 but that could change after #2 who knows! Before I had my son, I had said I only wanted one! I am surprised at these comments you all are talking about. I just can't imagine having an opinion about someone having 3 kids. Now, 18 kids - ya, I judge that! LOL

I think if someone decides to make a snotty comment to me, I will have to make some sort of snotty Duggar comment - something like - "we were thinking of having 3, but who knows, we may try to beat the Duggars".

  • My 3rd just turned a month old yesterday.  It's been an adjustment, but with each baby is gets easier.  :)  I already had a boy and a girl, so I got a lot of "WHY are you having 3, you already have one of each OMG!" Seriously?  Those people are idiots.  DH and I are already considering a 4th... wonder what they'll say then ;) I just love big families, and it makes me happy to think that we could possibly add one more kiddo to our already crazy life.

I say go for it and don't worry about everyone else!

  • I am pregnant with my fourth and you should hear the comments and looks I get from people about that! People are so weird. I am catholic so they assume I am going to go for like 10. I even got some anonymous hate mail about how evil catholics are. I wonder if it is because I am pregnant. It could be my job though, no idea. Either way, go for three if it is what is best for your family. Children are so awesome.
  • I'm one of 3 and I can't imagine having less than 3!  Looking forward to trying for the next one!

What!!? That is crazy! Hate mail!?

Sounds like I'm in good company. Thanks for sharing and good luck to all you new mommies! :
  • I know its totally crazy! Someone sent this little pamphlet to my office and home about how the catholic church is satans chuch...blah blah blah. I don't know if me being pregnant set it off or the fact that I mentioned my kids go to a catholic school to clients. Either way, a big family is awesome!
