Do you still hold your LO when giving a bottle

Finally I made it to this board...*Waves.

Do you all still hold your LO-s when giving the bottle?Or do you put them in the high chair and let them drink the milk on their own?I'm wondering if I should slowly let her drink her formula in the chair, maybe not the last one before bed, but everything else.

When did you start letting him/her drink alone?

Re: Do you still hold your LO when giving a bottle

  • I'm really bad - I still hold the bottle for my LO.  But most of the time he won't let me hold him on my lap - I put him in the stroller.

  • I always held them for bottle feedings. Neither was ever really interested in holding their own bottle (but held own sippy at 6 months, so not a big deal) and I liked the snuggle time. DD2 is still getting one bottle a day and I still hold her while giving it to her.

  • Yes, she is almost 10 months. she holds her own bottle but I hold her most of the time. Sometimes i give it to her in high chair or in the car seat or stroller though.
  • I still hold DS and his bottle for him. It's our snuggling time and he doesn't object! He lets me know when he wants to do it by taking it out of my hand and crawling off my lap.

He's a pro at using the sippy cup and he does that all by himself where ever he pleases. That started around 8-9 months. (He refuses to drink formula out of his cup though so he drinks water, juice and smoothies out of it instead.)

This is me as well.  I don't see the rush to getting them to hold their own bottle as important really.  My oldest had a bottle a day until 15 months or so and I held her and the bottle every time.  I will do the same for my youngest too (as well as each kid after this).

  • DS doesn't hold his own bottle. He has a few times, but those were flukes. He lays in the boppy pillow for most feedings, except his last one, where I hold him in his nursery.

  • He can hold his bottle, but rarely does it for me, unless I make him.  And I always hold him for his bottle, aside from random situations where he has a bottle in the car seat or stroller.  I tried putting him down and giving him a bottle, but he just threw it and looked at me like I was crazy.

I only really have the opportunity to give him 2 bottles a day most days since I work, and he is not a cuddler, so I like our bottle/snuggle time and don't plan on forcing an end to it.

  • Unless he's in the car seat I hold DS for his bottles.  He really has no interest in holding his own bottle--he'd rather play with my hair, his own hair, or hold my fingers, etc.  I don't mind, because it's our snuggle time and I only get to do it twice a day (with his morning and night bottles).

  • Yes, I still hold DS for bottles.  He has no interest in holding his own bottle, but he has no problems with a sippy.

He snuggles really good for his morning bottle (8oz), but then as the day goes on he is less interested and so he gets formula in a sippy.

  • DS has held his own daytime bottles since ~5mo, but I still feed him his first morning bottle and his bedtime bottle. Sometimes before a nap too.
