Tagging on to previous sleep post....

My LO usually sleeps 5 hours at night (going to bed around 11) then is up for 1.5 hours (changed, eating, and cuddling) then back down for 2 hours.

Two questions/advice requested.

1.  How do you get your baby to fall asleep?  Baby Girl only wants to fall asleep being held.  If you weaned your baby from this or don't do this at all PLEASE send tips my way!

2. How do I get her to start to go to bed earlier?

Thank you so much for your advice.  Even though I don't post TONS I read a lot and use much of the advice posted.

  • To answer question one, when Chloe was only 2 weeks old I started putting her down at night after a bottle when she was only partially asleep. She was tired and with a full belly she couldn't fight it for long. Now she doesn't even fuss she just let's herself doze off at night.

As for question 2 no answer. I'm a slave to her schedule. She's down for the night after whenever the 6th bottle falls. Last night it was at 7pm and then she slept until 2 am. I wish I could get the last bottle to be at 10pm

Thanks!  She is eating every 3-4 hours then?

  • Our little guy maxes out at a 4 hour strech of sleep. We keep him awake from about 6-8, give him a bath then a small bottle of pumped milk, play til about 9:30 then give him either a big bottle or breast feed him til he's looking sleepy and then we put him down.

He'll sleep from about 11:30-4. At 4 he breastfeeds for a few minutes then dozes back off on his own.

  • We just had noticed that DD started to get really fussy around 8 or 8:30 so we decided that would be bedtime.  We created a bedtime routine so that she realizes it's not just a nap.  She gets a bath, a pumped bottle from dad in the nursery with the lights low and white noise on, burped, swaddled, and rocked to sleep.  She definitely 'gets' bedtime because that's always her longest sleep stretch.

i think the pumped bottle helps because she ends up getting a bit more milk than she would by BFing.  Then I pump before I go to bed.

During the day it starts at about 2.5 stretches expanding out to 3 or 4 before she falls asleep for the night. In the morning she makes up for having gone that long without eating.
