Preemies

intro

Hi.  I was referred here from the adoption board.  My husband and I are blessed to be adopting a little girl .... we got the call shortly after she was born.  She was born 10-12 weeks premature weighing 2 pounds 4 ounces on Oct. 1.  She is in with  a great hospital in the state of her birth and we will be going to meet her this weekend which she is able to be held on the 15th...MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!.  We are absolutely lost when it comes to premises and while we will learn a lot this weekend any advice etc is helpful:)
After three miscarriages and one ectopic pregnancy we are currently pursuing adoption. " Born not from our flesh, but born in our heart. You were longed for and wanted and loved from the start."

  • One of the best things I did was buy the Preemie book by Dana Linden (bought it on Amazon for $10). I had a hard copy of it. I read the first few chapters of it while on bedrest and then a lot of it while Julia was in the NICU under the bili lights.  I felt empowered by knowing what questions to ask, what to anticipate, etc and the knowledge base that I was able to build made all of the necessary interventions a lot less scary.
