What does your baby do in the tub?

Aria loves the bath tub. Usually she's in her bath chair so she'll play with her toys and splash around. Sometimes if I don't want to mess with the chair, I'll put her bath sponge in the tub and she'll sit on it. Call me crazy, but the idea of letting her crawl around in the tub makes me twitchy. (We've had one single and one double ear infection already though... water in the ears terrifies me!)

The post below and the responses made me wonder... what do other people's babies do in the bath tub? Do they just sit there and play with toys? Splash? Crawl around? Cry?

  • Laura sits straight in the tub. She splashes around and chases her rubber duckies. Sometimes, in persuit, she flips onto her tummy and I have to put her back up to a seated position. Then the chase continues (those ducks are slippery fellows).

  • Asher splashes and plays with his turtle bath toy (it tells the temp of the water). Sometimes he plays with a washcloth. He's really just happy sitting in the water..he loves it!

  • Reece crawls around and goes bobbing for his toys, he loves it. He splashes and sucks on a rag most the time though. If I take the rag from him, he freaks. I think it's yucky that he does this whole rag sucking thing, so I try to hide the rags from him and keep his toys in front by him.

  • We have a non skid bath mat and she sits in the tub playing with toys, splashing, screeching loudly. At times she will crawl from one end to the other chasing her toys as they float around.  She LOVES bath time!

  • Ava sits in her bath seat, kicks her feet to splash, chases her rubber duckies, and mainly chews on the cup I wash her off with and/or the washcloth.  She just loves sitting in the water.

  • They crawl on occasion, but mostly splash and play with toys.  We only put enough water so that it covers their legs when sitting, but even that amount could be dangerous and we are always right there.  Natalia slipped once and her face went into the water and I pulled her right up and she laughed.  I said "be careful!" because I don't want her thinking that putting her face in the water is a game at this point.  I feel like it's a fine line because I'm a little apprehensive when they play, but I don't want that to come across and have them be afraid of the water.  It took them a long time to not scream during baths so now that they're having fun I don't want to rain on their parade.

  • PJ sits in his bath seat and splashes and screams for as long as I'll let him.  When I say scream, it's the "Oh my goodness, this is so much fun" screech.  He has some bath books that I got at Walmart, and he has some bath blocks that he likes to eat.

While he does all of that, I sit next to the tub (or kneel on my mat) and read to him.  I love bath time almost as much as he does.

  • Mine just sits. I'm still sing the baby tub on my kitchen counter. I dread moving to the big tub.

  • Skyler splashes and plays with her bath toys and tries to eat her wash cloth.  Her new thing is trying to get the water spout (is that what it's called)  So she uses her tub as leverage, stands and reaches over for the spout.  It is not fun because I'm scared she is going to fall, so I try to face her away from her new love.  She also tries to climb out of the bath tub and throws her toys out of her tub.

Her tub sits inside the big tub.

  • Lauren splashes with both arms and both legs to make the water go everywhere! Bath time is extremely wet in our house.

  • We have a big baby tub, but he still uses it. He splashes, plays with a rubber duck (which is from my firefighter BIL- it is wearing a fireman's uniform, and also tells if the water is too hot), or with the beaker I use to rinse him. He LOVES playing in running water, but I am afraid of him getting too close to the spigot, so I usually fill up the beaker and pour it out from really high above him. Watching water go down the drain is also apparently fascinating.

He mostly sits up in the tub. Occasionally, he tries to flip onto his belly, but we usually discourage it. Lately, he has been trying to pull up in the tub, which we are strongly trying to discourage.

Honestly, the big tub skeeves me out a little, mainly because I know how long I go between cleaning it. Stick out tongue

  • He loves the tub. He sits in the big tub now and splashes, chases toys, crawls around, and has recently started pulling up (I make him sit back down obviously).

  • Katherine mostly plays with a few bath toys, just picking them up, etc. She splashes a bit. WE have a blow up tub that I love and she is well supported in that (plus the water can be deeper).

I really like to take baths with her when timing works for us. Then I can help her with her 'swimming' . It's also a lot easier on my body to be in the tub rather than to be hanging over the side all of the time. I think it's the only way I can get some tub time for myself. I get 5 minutes or so on my own before DH strips her down and brings her to me. Then I get to lounge a bit more on my own when he takes her out and dries/PJ's her up.
