Crackers and Soup

Just read through the lunch rut post below and saw that some of you give your LO's crackers, so just wondering what kind you give? That goes for soup as well...are you giving ready made soup like Campbells or making your own? I don't want to load L up on processed stuff but now that she's one I'm slacking off because I figure her tummy can handle more adult flavors.

Re: Crackers and Soup

  • I don't give DD crackers very often, so I can't help you there. I do give her soup a lot; it's usually homemade. I make a big batch and freeze portions so I can easily reheat them. However, she has had store bought soup very occasionally; I make sure it is a low sodium variety.

  • I give A Ritz Crackers...all varieties but she loves the whole wheat variety. They are pretty easy for her to eat because they aren't as hard as others.  As for soup, I've only given her homemade soup...but she is refusing to bee spoon fed so that's currently on hold.

  • Occasionally we give DS saltine crackers but he gets goldfish at daycare all of the time. We will give DS homemade soup if that is what we made for dinner but on occasion we will give him Campbells too. I do not like the high amount of sodium in canned soup but I figure that if it is only once in awhile then it really isn't a big deal.

  • I have given E Ritz Hint of Salt, Goldfish, and Low Salt Saltines.  She loves crackers!

Also, I have given her canned soup when in a pinch. Progresso Low Sodium Chicken Noodle. But she doesn't get the broth, she just likes to eat the veggies and pasta out of it.

  • DD gets whole grain Goldfish. She goes nuts for them.

I've tried to give her homemade baked potato soup but she wasn't crazy about it.

  • She has had Club crackers, the Baby Goldfish, and Ritz type crackers before.  We don't really buy canned soup because I'm not big on the amount of salt in them but we occasionally buy the store made soup that doesn't appear to have as much salt in it.  I plan on trying to make soup this fall/winter since I have gotten more into cooking from scratch of late.

Monday we got some tomato basil soup and had grilled cheese sandwiches but I didn't let her feed herself any of the soup.  I dipped her grilled cheese in it before giving the pieces to her.

  • We have given DS homemade soup and soup when we are at restaurants. He usually eats it. We have also given him crackers. We usually give him Club multi-grain minis and break them in half. We also have given him whole grain cheese goldfish.

  • I have given homemade chicken noodle and homemade crockpot beef stew. Both are super chunky so she can grab the chunks of food and feed herself. She currently won't let me spoon feed her.

  • My kid gets homemade soup.

For crackers I give him goldfish or oyster crackers
