My son ( 1 month old) is always swaddled and my question is that his legs are never straight in the small swaddleme or the halo swaddle (the next size is way to bog) will that damage is leg growth. Like I said a stupid question. Also blankets don't work he get out of them
Re: Ftm with a stupid question
As long as he is able to move all of his joints (hips, knees, ankles) a little, it's not a problem. If you're still worried about it, just give him a little un-swaddled time every couple of hours .. such as after you change his diaper.
What can cause problems is if you swaddle your baby tightly with their legs straight out - this can cause the hips to come out of socket in very young babies.
Yelp. We were told to swaddle at night (thank goodness!) and let him kick, play and have supervised tummy time during the day to help with his developmental growth.
Also, you don't want to swaddle the legs tightly, it can cause hip dysphasia. A newborn's legs should always be bent at a comfortable, natural relaxed angle.
This is what I was told also. Babies love being all cuddled up when they sleep, but when I give LO tummy time, I would encourage her to kick around, swing her arms, discover how everything works. Also, her Pediatrician usually asks if she moves both arms/legs equally so letting her be free lets me monitor her development also.
