uneven pumping

I just went back to work last week.  I EBF when I'm home with my daughter, so I have/had no idea how much she was drinking at a time.  I've noticed during my pump sessions at work, one breast provides vastly more milk than the other (3-4 oz out of 1 vs. 1-2 oz out of the other). When I pump, it definitely seems like I drain the smaller breast and the other one could probably keep going for awhile, but I don't want to end up completely lopsided.

 Has anyone else experienced this?  Am I doing something wrong?  I have one of those bras that allows for hands free pumping, could that be part of it?

I had a super-boob too.  One would pump anywhere from 1-3 oz less than the other.  It's just how it is, at least, in my experience.

I was always the same way. I tried to offer my lesser-producing boob to DS first during nursing sessions in an effort to boost it but for whatever reason (maybe because he was draining it so quickly) he usually wanted the right pretty quickly, anyway. I think it's pretty normal.

I would double-check your pump parts and membranes and be certain that you have the shield evenly positioned on both sides just to be sure, but it's very common for one to produce more than the other....righty was always a super boob for me.

Like PP said, check your pump. I messed up a membrane once and it didn't pump right. Besides that, it is totally normal for it to be different. My left was the super producer. I'm also left handed so maybe that has something to do with it.

I always had one that made more than the other. I would continue my pumping session to let the one with more milk drain. I also always hoped it would stimulate more production in the lesser producing side, but that never happened.

Oh yes this is normal. I EP'd and I had a boob that I called "the producer". I would sometimes get 7 or 8 oz on that side alone.

Same here. One side produces about twice as much as the other. Totally normal.

I also have a super boob and an under achiever. In fact, with DD2, I ended up nursing her on one side only.

This post is making me laugh.  I have the same thing.  My right side is an over-achiever and produces about 3x as much as my left.  It is only slightly larger in size and not noticable in clothes.  It was the same way with DS#1.

I call mine good side and bad side. Good side is my left.

We should do a poll and see which side wins as the most frequent overproducer, right or left!
