Plus Size Nursing Bras

Anyone with some advice on how many cup sizes to go up for nursing?  I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant and plus size mama to be.  Its hard enough finding regular bras let alone nursing bras and I think its time to order or should I wait a couple more weeks?  Need to consider delivery/shipping time of bras.  Should I get some bra extenders too?

Re: Plus Size Nursing Bras

  • I went from a 40 D/DD to a 42 DDD/E.  I ordered nursing bras from Lane Bryant (the store can help you.)  The cups aren't sized, just the band.  One came in the wrong size so I need to see about exchanging it, but the one that does fit seems like it will be great.

  • I went with the cacique cotton no wire bra (from lane bryant) and am converting them myself to have snaps on the straps so I can lower the cup if I want. They are really soft and comfortable to sleep in as well. Because of the cotton they stretch in the cup (yes I stuffed my bra to find out :D) so there is some give for when the milk comes in.

I always have extenders on hand, they are pretty inexpensive. You can buy them at any sewing store as well, joann's or hancock fabrics if you have one.

  • I normally go to Nordstrom for my bra needs, but they lack in the plus size nursing mom department. I went to a nursing specialty store in my city called A Woman's Work, and that had a good plus size section for nursing bras and tanks. I got fitted there soon after having DS.

  • Shoot by the time I was entering the 2nd tri, I was in bigger bras.  It kinda depends on whether you like or dislike underwires.  Motherhood isn't so bad until you ge passed the 40DD mark, then your screwed.  You just have to order a bunch online, try on, and return.
  • Bravado Nursing bras are the BEST for extra curvy mommies, at least in my experience.  I'm a 38/40 DDD/F  They have this one style of bra that allow for multiple cup and band sizes so you can buy it to wear in late pregnancy and still have a bit of room if your size increases.

This is the exact bra that I currently wear, so maybe I will just go up a cup size and get some extenders and hopefully my cup size wont go up more than one :)
