Peanut allergies

Has anyone ever thought of this? Maybe I'm going batshit crazy today since Addy had a good two hour screaming fit cuz she wanted to poop but couldn't and Dax just napped for a goddamn half hour. I got a 15 minute nap in and I NEED it today.

Anyways...onto my question. I know peanut allergies run in families. They run on my mom's side but neither me nor my sister have peanut allergies (or any nut allergy...) Have you ever thought of eating a peanut butter sandwich or something of the sort and then kissing the baby? I know some people are so deadly allergic even touching a peanut will give them a deadly reaction. I'm sure my kids aren't allergic, but what if they were? I wonder if anyone's ever found out their kids are allergic this way!

Re: Peanut allergies

  • We have no peanut allergies in our family either, but I've wondered the exact same thing!  I've also heard that sometimes peanut reactions don't occur until the second or third exposure, so I wonder if people have found allergies after eating peanuts around their babies multiple times.

  • I have a peanut allergy, and I worry that ds will have one too. So far I haven't seen any reaction when other people eat peanuts and love on my baby. Although, it could still be too early. I found out I was severely allergic when I was 5.

  • My pedi said babies don't develop any allergies before 6 months.

But maybe that's because they aren't supposed to eat solids until 6 months...

  • well, i can tell you with 100% certainty that my DD does not have a peanut allergy since i just did this today.

my batshit crazy fear is that i'm going to cause her cancer by having my cell phone near her.....which is why i don't do a lot of mobile bumping.

  • I ate peanut butter when I was 3 for the first time. It swelled up my tongue, causing me to choke, and I broke out in hives. I tried peanut butter about a year ago for the first time since then and I was fine. I've been eating all the peanut butter I can find since then. A lot of kids, like me, apparently grow out of it.

  • I have actually heard stories of 'girl kisses bf after pb sandwich and bf has anaphylaxis', so I assume those things would test a severe allergy. I dunno about with babies though, never really thought about it.

  • We have a shellfish allergy in my family, particularly my nephew. He is sensitive to the touch with it. At family gatherings, we won't have seafood or if he comes along to a restaurant we order it at our table. We found out how bad he was when he completely ballooned up after eating a few shrimp.

This past summer, DH took DS across the street to a backyard party at our neighbors and then returned home to tell me DS eat like 20 scrimp. At first, I was a little worried, but everything was fine.

I do know someone found out about a peanut allergy after giving their 16 month old Thai food for dinner.

And a few of my family members are allergic to red dye and become very blotchy. Is it RED45 or something, the one they put in Gatorade and Twizzlers?
