Baby Names

*plundurb*

Do you have a monthly/bi-annual/year membership to Ancestry.com? I think I may ask for one for Christmas.

Any more news on the Amy/Emma controversy? They are sort of the same name backwards phonetically, right?

Re: *plundurb*

  • I have access through my job (at a university), but have had an annual membership in the past and have found it well worth it. I have to use census records for my work and I always just search through Ancestry ? their index is the best. Thanks, Mormons!

If you don't want to pay or think you might not use it much, you can check and see if your local library has a subscription. You can also create an account and family tree for free, but won't have access to the census and other records.

I never noticed that you were in Brockport ? all this Emma/Amy drama went down in Rochester (DH's family still lives there). Rodney and Emma ran away to Michigan when they got married, so I need to get Amy/Emma's birth certificate from Michigan. It looks like I will need her death certificate and a signature from one of her executors, so it's probably something I'll look into over the holidays (Rochester is such a delightful vacation destination in the dead of winter).

  • That is really great you can have access thru work. I saw on the ancestry website that they have monthly or six month plans. I didn't look much further though. Maybe I'll check and see if our local library has free access like you suggested.

Good luck in your search for the birth certificate! We're in Bp right now, but I'm originally from the Finger Lakes region. Have you been to the Museum of Play in Rochester? We just went a few weeks ago. DH has a membership to the George Eastman House, but we haven't gone yet.

  • Too funny ? Amy/Emma spent her whole adult life in Canadice (a teeny, tiny village on a teeny tiny lake).

My MIL is a big doll collector and donated some dolls to the museum, so we went to see them a few years ago, but haven't brought DD yet. We're looking forward to it this year!

Good luck with Ancestry. If you can't get it through the library, it makes a good Christmas gift ? parents/grandparents/in-laws often love that stuff.
