Block Feeding - How long to see a difference?

So after speaking with my lactation consultant, we're going to try block feeding to help with my oversupply and overactive letdown. I had already been feeding Luke only on one side per nursing session, so now I'll be using the same side for two feedings (he eats about every 2 hours). Of course, this will make the overactive letdown issue even worse until my supply regulates and I'm not so engorged. For those of you who tried block feeding, how long did it take until your body regulated? I'm hoping no more than a week!

Re: Block Feeding - How long to see a difference?

  • I got results in less than 48 hrs, and enjoyed almost a week of yellow poops and more comfortable breasts. And then *BAM!* back to square 1 all of a sudden a couple of days ago, and even though I started block feeding again, I don't have such quick results this time. So I don't know.

  • I tried doing short sessions, using one side 2x. That didn't seem to be doing the trick. So, I went to doing one side for 1/2 the day. This helped after 2 days. Of course, I did try to go back to feeding on both breasts and ended up back at square one. To this day I only feed on one side at a time. I had a huge over supply and strong let down. I still have a leaking issue. But, I would rather deal with that than being engorged ever again! She has adapted to my let down as well. It took a lot. Poor thing choked through it. But, after all the worring and tears... we are doing great! Good luck!
