Blended Families

Never again...

"Judge not..." I need to make this my new mantra.

If you recall I was ticked off at BM last month because her youngest child had HF&M and she brought her around SD.  SD never contracted it though, and today I found out why.

BMs baby never had hand foot and mouth.  What she did have was a penny lodged inside her esophagus.  It's been there for a month, corroding, causing her to have fever and break out in a rash.  She had it removed surgically this morning.

Poor baby and poor BM.  She's had her to the doctor at least 3 times since this apparently happened.  I'm baffeled that it took so long to catch it.

  • We all use the same pediatrician.  We'll be finding a new one for sure.

  • I really doubt this is a lack of proper protocol for this LO by the pediatrician. Without a history of foreign body ingestion, one would be hard pressed to know that this was the cause of fever and rash.  Also, it's not good to just jump to imaging (x-ray) in young children at the first sign of anything wrong.   I see that used much too often in my field and one should really limit radiation exposure.

That said, poor LO.  I hope that all turns out ok and with no residual effects.  :(
