Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What kind of changing area do you have for your 11-12 mo?

Right now we have a changing table that looks pretty much like this one:

It worked well all throughout LO's infancy, but due to 1) his very long length 2) his newfound grabbiness (he grabs onto the ends and pulls, screaming), activity and increased wrigglyness DH and had our concerns about him kicking the ends with his feet (which he does) or that he would either whack his head on the wall or on one of the wooden ends of the table (which he just did this morning).

We are in need of some kind of new changing table system, it seems.  I admit originally we did purposely buy his beautiful dresser because it has the hardware on the back to attach a changing pad, but now I've gotten used to it as more of a display area and also to hold LO's bin of nighttime books, his lamp, a few picture frames, etc. and I dont really want to convert it into the changing area.  :(  Plus, the dresser is much lower than the changing table.  Buuut, I guess I may have to adapt and switch things around, and use the changing table as a display area, like this Mom did:

I was wondering what everyone else has for a setup for their changing area?  Is your LO's changing pad on top of his/her dresser, or are you still using an actual "changing table" ?

  • I put my DD on the floor, propping her in the boppy, and give her something to play with.  I haven't used my changing table since my DD could roll over.  She is a mover and it is to scary for me to change her on a table.

  • I change him on the floor, he flops around WAY to much for any elevated surface.

  • The floor, couch, bed, on my legs, basically anywhere I can hurry and change her while she sits still for 2.5 seconds lol

  • I change him on the floor.  Nothing fancy because he can't hold still for more than 2 seconds.

  • Our changing area looks like the changing pad that was in our pack and play changing area, just on our bed or on the floor...Mostly the floor now that he's a full fledged wiggle worm.

  • We've always used a changing pad on top of a long dresser. It still works good. He does squirm and roll, but I just hold him or distract him as best I can. Sometimes I let him stand on it and change his diaper while he's standing, because he refuses to lay still. I do sometimes change him on the floor, but I prefer the changing area because the diaper pail, wipes, and everything else is right there.

    We have this one:

  • Large, curved changing pad on dresser.  My kids are wigglers, but having the U-shaped changing table at a good height works very well.  We used to go with the changing table attached to the crib, but that got outgrown very fast.

  • our changing table is also a dress due to limited space. I mostly change them on that but if its just a quick pee diaper I change it on the living room rug and give LO a toy. they will NOT lay still for diaper changes without something to keep them distracted so its a bit scary on the dresser but Im right there and don't take a hand off of them, the waist strap does nothing to keep them still either. You could try your bed even or the floor.

  • We are still using our changing table. He seems to do better up there because he knows he can't just crawl away like he does on the floor. I usually give him something to hold onto while I change him and we are good to go. Takes all of 1 minute. When on the floor, it usually ends up with me chasing him down while he runs away butt naked or with my leg over him wrangling him to get the diaper back on. Usually both!

  • The floor. Much easier
