Help!

My daughter is 2 1/2 months old. She was 6 weeks early. She is developmentally on target. My problem is that she will not sleep much at all. She catnaps throughout the day for about 20-30 minutes at a time about 3-4 times a day. At night we try to start getting her ready for bed around 10pm after her feeding. She is exhausted but fights sleep. It has been getting worse lately and she has not been going to sleep until 2 or 3am. I have tried everything I can think of but nothing works. Any suggestions????

Re: Help!

  • My little man is the same way. Plus he wakes up every 2 hours during the night. What helps him sleep a little better at night is a warm bath then a feeding afterwards. Do you bf? because if you do, you might consider co sleeping. I co sleep and its the best thing ever. I don't have to get up and heat any bottles.
    Good luck!

  • For the first couple of weeks my daughter was going to bed after her last feeding, which was as late as 10:30 pm. She was also born at 40 weeks 2 days. After a while I changed the routine and was able to get her to go to bed between 8 or 8:30 pm. I also have a 4 year old that I put to bed around the same time.

I would suggest giving LO a warm bath, put on pajamas, feed, and then swaddle or put into their crib by 8 pm. This works wonderful for my LO and she gets plenty of sleep. Having a consistent routine works well for LO's and it also allows you time to relax or get things done in the evenings.

  • I co-sleep too, it is wonderful. Not just for your baby, but it also puts your mind at ease.  There are ways to do it safely. (I use a moses basket). DD had a hard time going to sleep and every time I set her down she would wake screaming, so co-sleeping worked well for us, she could be close to me and nurse on demand without fully waking up.  Also, are you swaddling?
