What a week! Thank you to all of you who soothed me a week ago today when I was panicking at the last minute about my C section and the upcoming change in my and my DH's lives. That feels like another lifetime to me now.
We went in for my scheduled C section on Tuesday, October 2 first thing in the morning. I was feeling pretty good until we got to L&D and they quickly began hooking me up to the IV/fetal monitors and getting me prepped for surgery. It was all happening so fast and was so medical (as a gal who's never had surgery before!) that I started to really panic. Things crescendo'ed once I got to the OR and suddenly there were multiple people talking to me at once, the spinal going in, oxygen being placed, etc. and I was really emotionally struggling to stay strong. I was really shocked at just how fast things happened! Next thing I knew they were beginning the surgery and my husband was at my side. Five minutes later Baby A was out, and he promptly peed on my OB Baby B was out a minute later. I started crying when I heard their cries for the first time and I'm not really sure if I stopped for a while. I was nervous and impatient for them to finish stitching me up so that I could see and hold my boys. Luckily my hospital's policy is to keep them in the OR for their initial tests unless they needed to be rushed to NICU, which blessedly they didn't. They were born so, so healthy.
Baby A: Andrew Lincoln, born at 9:06am on October 2. 6lbs 3oz and 18.5 inches
Baby B: Will Thomas, born at 9:07am on October 2. 6lbs 7 oz and 20 inches.
The babies came back with us to recovery and have barely been apart from us since, aside from a few normal testing procedures. I have been floored at just how deeply I loved them from the moment they were born. Everything I worried about (the C section, mostly) just flew out the window and all I care about now is that they're here and they're ours and I'm just so, so in love. I can't imagine only having one baby, and we feel so blessed, even during the night feeds So far this MoM thing is downright incredible.
Trying this image thing for the first time, so please excuse any hiccups while I get it right!
ETA all the important stuff I forgot the first time: Delivered at 38 weeks, 4 days. I'm nursing but we're heavily supplementing to get the boys' weights up, on advice on the hospital pediatricians. We stayed in the hospital an extra night to make sure they stopped losing weight before being sent home.
