Special Needs

Finally! A diagnosis!

Just had DD's appt with the Dev Ped this am! It was what we expected but am glad we have someone else that thinks what we knew. She was DX with FASD some sensory difficulties, and severe communication disorder. Phewwww.
Basically we just keep on with her speech therapy twice a week. Right now it is 1 hour a week. I'm thinking of asking for more. And they want to add OT.
She will be 3 in Feb so they want us to have her in the special Pre school program.
They mentioned giving omega 3's and no red or yellow dyes. Any other suggestions?
As a side note, she was adopted as a newborn and BM used alcohol. But we are very thankful she is with us and we can provide everything she needs!
Thanks for listening and I'm glad to have a group of ladies that understands!

  • I also adopted a substance exposed child and am dealing with sensory issues.  My Devel peds also recommended staying away from red food dyes and giving Omega 3 fatty acids. Which I started about 2 months ago.  My son is on OT and ST and doing much better.  He is a different child from what he was 6 months ago.  It is so important to get those services for our kids before they are 3.  Every specialist I have seen has said that at age 3 their brains go through a change of sorts and if you can get them started before 3 they typically have a better outcome in their behaviors and often times are on track by the time they started kidnergarten. She is lucky to have you and I know you probably feel like I do that you are the lucky one to have her.  I'm glad you finally got a diagnosis. Huggs mama.
