My LO is 2 months today, and weighs 12 lbs. She feeds every 3 hours for approx 30-40 mins/feed. At night she can go up to 6 hrs, but typically goes about 5 hours between feeds. I'm wondering if I am feeding her too often. She isn't crying from hunger, so I know I don't need to increase the frequency. Wondering what others are at.
Re: How often do you feed?
I nurse on-cue and don't pay too much attention to the clock, but I suppose it is about 10-30 min every 2-3 hours in the day and 3-5 at night with DS2. DS1 nursed over an hour of every 2 hours. It was it INTENSE.
Nothing about what you've said makes it sound like too much. To be honest, it is nearly impossible to over-feed a BFed baby. If baby doesn't want to eat when you offer, he won't.
That nightime stretch you are getting is AMAZING! Enjoy it while it lasts. While that strevery well may get shorteras baby gets older (and gets more social, has teething pain, has a growth spurt, etc.) nursing less during the day can also encourage night-waking because baby will try to get in the calories then rather than in the day. Also, remember that crying is a late sign of hunger. You can also offer when you see these things: https://kellymom.com/ages/newborn/bf-basics/hunger-cues/ or you can offer whenever you want to, just because.
Have you read The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding? If not, that is a great read to encourage you in your nursing relationship. It sounds like it is off to a great start, but even with baby 2, I like to refresh myself with the info in that book.
