Preventing a cold

Hey everyone!

After watching a cold get spread around my job for this past week I woke up this morning with a runny nose and overall crappy feeling. Aside from constant hand washing, is there anything I can do to prevent spreading it to my baby? I also breastfeed so hopefully the antibodies will help!

Thanks in advance!

Re: Preventing a cold

  • In addition to all of the GREAT suggestions above, vitamin D drops, vitamin C, and infant-formulated probiotics (your LO already gets great probiotics in your BM, but there are other strains that can help with their immune system). DH and I had raging colds about a month and a half ago, and LO never got sick... even preemies can develop strong immune systems!

  • We used face masks to cover our nose and mouth when we had a cold last year. You can get disposable ones at the drug store. Lots of handwashing, and use a humidifier wherever the baby sleeps. Every little thing helps!

  • There is a lot of great advice above, but I wanted to include: don't beat yourself up if LO gets sick, too. I did all of those things (we're still EBF at 18+ mo) and DS got sick a lot. There's stuff you can do to make it less likely but you can't completely prevent it - which I'm sure you know. BF kids get sick just like FF do. Hope you feel better soon!
