Please Help!

Okay I need help. So many of you have talked about bringing LO on an airplane but I haven't paid attention. Now I wish I had because we are going on a plane on Thurs! These are the things I have done or heard to do so far:

1) Bought new toys he has never seen that will hopefully entertain him.

2) I am bringing solids on the plane since he loves them and it will kill some time if hes not sleeping.

3) I will try to feed him on take-off and landing for his ears.

4) I am bringing a tablet so we can watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Any other recommendations? I feel like you all have had great experiences, and someone is bound to have an experience with "that kid" that won't stop screaming. **palms start getting sweaty**

Any tips are appreciated! TIA!

Re: Please Help!

  • Sounds like you will be just fine!  If you can, bring a pillow for baby to rest on in your lap.  There is a Travel Boppy that is pretty new and I picked one up for a cross-country flight with DS - it was well worth it.  It folds up and has a strap so it's not as awkward to haul around as a regular Boppy, and he was totally comfortable sleeping on it in my lap.  He slept most of the return flight without a peep.

  • Someone I knew made little baggies for the passengers around them. It was little zip-lock snack bags with ear plugs and hard candy (that was sealed) with a note that said "This is my 1st time flying in an airplane. So please forgive me if I cry a little. I'm only (x-amount of months) old. My mommy is gonna try her best to keep me calm. If I don't like the airplane, here is some ear plugs for you and a piece of candy. Thank you for understanding!" She made about 12 of these and gave out 6 on the 1st flight to their destination and 6 on the way back. Everyone absolutely loved the idea and her DD was an angel!

  • I agree with Jesse eff ppl. I flew alone last month with DS and he was a crier that day (exhaustion) and then he fell asleep. I got a few looks but I was doing EVERYTHING possible to soothe him. But babies cry. People need to get over it, I shouldn't have to give them a goodie bag.

Also if your LO is Mr. Grabby like mine he will grab everything in the seat pocket (sky mall mag, brochures, etc)..just to give you warning it took me off guard and then all of a sudden that sh!t was flying all over the place.

  • We did everything you did (including Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!).  Bring some snacks other than solids.  Like puffs or Cherrios.  I use those to distract my kid.  He has to feed himself.  So the time it takes to hand him each puff and then him feed it to himself, eat it.  Took a good chunk of time.

I gave my son his bottle when we started to taxi.  And of course the damm plane got delayed.  So he was done with the bottle before take off.  He was fine, I gave him a paci.  Also if your LO takes paci's consider a paci leash.  We had one but didn't put it on him.  He dropped it about 10 million times.  And we kept switching out with clean ones (we had 7 with us!).

My kid was super nosey and people watched half the time.  Some people will give you stink eye when they see you.  Find the friendly people.  I had a man across the aisle that was so nice.  He kept smiling and talking to my kid.   My child was glued to him.   I thanked him for being so kind once our flight was done.

Also think about disposable bibs so your diaper bag doesn't get sticky after the solids.  I had a small SkipHop diaper changer that came in handy.  I had to change my son in the plane restroom.  And it was alot easier than carrying our diaper bag.
