This week (finally) has been leveling out on the stress level. DS and I were actually singing in the car on the way home...
To follow up on my last post, first I had a heart to heart talk with DH, basically telling him everything I told you guys and of course he felt bad. He said he feels the same as I do, and apologized for not being there as often as he should've been - he said he will be committing more time & energy to us.
Secondly, after my vent, I felt better.
I decided that I would give the OT Location another chance. I'm SOOOOO glad I did - we met with a new OT today, where DS was loving every minute (giggling, engaging...)
The last OT we had tried to force DS into a new transition which caused the behaviors to escalate...this time, the therapist was engaging in positive ways allowing for calm transitions and showed me how to follow through with other activities at home.
The last OT (who we had the issue with), was sharing a room with us today and without mentioning anything except a kind "hello" - instead of focusing on her therapy patient, she started to vocally nudge her way into our therapy sessions with unsolicited advice. Of course politely I thanked her, and we continued our therapy.
Our new therapist said that she finds that with some children by physically and mentally "forcing" a child to do an activity, the exact opposite will occur and will escalate issues...she allowed DS to do the activities and transitions well. He met one of his goals today - and she said that she feels his sensory relates specifically tactile and its very minor. She was very happy we have him in a gymnastics class...and she said it will help him follow through in OT activities too.
I think will sleep better tonight...
