Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Getting rid of the bedtime bottle

My LO is 10 1/2 months and has eliminated his 3 - 4oz daytime bottles have switched to the NUK Learner Cup for the past couple months. He has always fallen asleep with his 6oz bedtime bottle and now I don't know how to switch him out of this routine.

Suggestions?

  • what's the hurry? it is probably comforting when he is going to bed.

  • I agree, it definately settles him down and he snuggles right in. I am just thinking ahead a bit so that in the next couple months we can get it eliminated.

  • I've been giving my LO her last bottle about 1/2 to 1 hr before her bedtime so she's full but not falling asleep with the bottle. She has 7 teeth so I wanted to get her brushing her teeth every night. 2 nights so far so good. Good luck to you :)

He's still a baby so don't worry about it. Do you want to get rid of it because you are "supposed" to or because you are done with bottles? If the former, let is go and let him enjoy it. Try again in a month or so.

I just say that because I have seen so many moms stress about silly things like dropping a bottle or potty training by a certain time. What I have found is if you wait a bit and try again with those things, there is no stress involved and comes easier when they are ready.
