Coats

Do you put a coat on your LO? This question is mainly for those who still use the infant seat to carry LO inside DC. Today It's 37 degrees outside, LO has on a onesie plus a shirt and a hoodie and then I put a blanket over her. She goes from the house to the car and from the car to DC. I felt like maybe she wasn't warm enough...but then again I do not want her to be too warm. WDYT?

This sounds fine to me. She wasn't outside long. IMO

That what I was thinking. Thank you

  • DD is 2.5 and DS is 4 months. With DD the only time she wore her coat was if she was in the stroller. It will be the same with DS. Even now DD only wears her coat when she is walking outside if I am running in and out no coat since it is not safe in the car seat. People use to give me looks in gymboree because my DD never had a heavy coat but I did not see the point when they can't wear it in the car seats.  These were the same people I saw putting their toddlers in the car seat with a heavy coat so I guess you could say I looked back lol.  I did get a remote start so the car is warm when we go out and I always leave heavy coats in the car just in case something happens and we need them.

  • I had this car seat cover thing with an elastic bottom (someone called it "shower cap style") that just slipped over on top of LO after she was already strapped in.  Mine was a Jeep brand.  This isn't the exact one, but very similar.  It worked great, I never put her in a coat in the carseat for safety reasons.

  • We have one of those carseat covers similar to this but not as heavy:

Very easy to take on and off.

We have one of these but I was thinking she was too big/long for it now. Hmmm I'll try it out when we get home this evening.

  • I did when it was in the 50's outside. I put on a light jacket. Now I just put a blanket on him and don't bother with the jacket. Since we shouldn't use a thick coat in the car seat it didn't make sense to put it on for the trip between car and daycare.

On the same note, when DD was a toddler, I would bring her in to stores in the winter with only a thin/medium jacket on. Thick coats aren't safe in the car seat and the 30 seconds outside in the parking lot isn't a big deal.

  • I have a car seat poncho for DD.  It has two layers of super thick fleece, it can be used with the car seat without having to take it on and off, and we are on our 2nd year on one poncho.
