"I Don't Know How She Does It"

Has anyone seen the movie"I Don't Know How She Does It" starring SJP?  It's about a WM juggling/balancing life; career, kids, marriage, social life?  There is also a supporting character who is pg and a career woman. I watched the movie this wknd, and I could relate in several ways to the main character.

The movie provided a (fictional) statistic-60% of moms do not STTN b/c they are making lists in their heads.  I'm guilty!

SJP showed up to work w/ a Bisquick stain on her outfit, tried to rub it off but ultimately didn't care.  I'm sure at one time or another all of us have been guilty of this whether it be food, spit-up,etc...

Thoughts or connections if you have seen the movie?

  • I didnt see the movie but I read the book, and at first I felt myself completely relating to the main character, but then as I kept reading through the book, It actually depressed me and made me very sad.  After that I decided not to see the movie. :)

  • I saw it a while back and thought it was pretty good and funny.

There were times I could relate to SJP character but most of the time I couldnt. I don't have a career like hers.

  • I read a few pages of the book but didn't finish it.  I couldn't relate to her constant insecurity and try to "perform" for her nanny/other mothers.  It honestly made me sad to see a successful woman portrayed as such an insecure mess who's will to sacrifice her own sanity.

  • Now I have another movie and book to add to my list!

I showed up to work today with pancake mix on me...or maybe it's formula (I can't tell). So I could probably relate!

  • The movie actually kind of bugged me.  I can't relate, b/c I felt like she was so insecure about her decisions.  I also only work about 45 hours per week, so I feel like I'm on top of things and get plenty of time with DD.

  • I haven't seen it, but I can definitely relate to finding random stains on my clothes when I get to work.

  • My work doesn't require nearly as much time and travel as hers but I liked the Momster part.  The book I thought was more depressing.  My favorite part is the opening scene where SJP is "distressing" a pie so that it looks homemade.  Totally something I would do.  And showing up to work and then realizing I have a random kid stain is like every single day.  Ha!
  • Ooh, and the lice part.  DD got lice right before Thanksgiving; guess who didn't end up hosting after all?  And I was definitely like, "Um, hey work, gotta take off a couple of days.  Don't really want to say why!"  Ooh, and the "I was late because I had a mammogram" excuse.  Start talking about boobs and work stops asking questions PRONTO! ;)
