Pregnant after a Loss

Anyone have a temp drop after BFP no loss?

Good morning all!

Well pretty much everything I've read has said step away from the thermometer and tests. But I'm having a hard time with that since my tests have been sooo light and because of my previous losses. So I'm just wondering if there are any ladies out there who have had a temp drop for 2 or more days like mine that have not ended in chemical pregnancy/early loss? I am trying not to worry but it would help so much if I knew others that ha this happen that didn't end in loss.

I get blood taken today for the first time. I am thinking about going to GNC to see if they have any form of natural progesterone supplement. But I don't know what I would look for, and I don't know if I even have low progesterone and I don't know if I took it if that would mess up my lab results. Also if I would then be worried about going off of it. If anyone has any thoughts on that, TIA!

I am worried because I've got two low temps in a row and falling vs rising. But not below the cover line yet.

Thanks again for reading my frantic morning rant!

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this. I've been taking my temps daily too, just for reassurance. Although I don't have any advice for you, just wanted to let you know I'll be thinking good vibes for you. Hopefully your doctor can help you and prescribe you with the extra progesterone if you need it.

  • I did have a couple dips in temp after my BFP but not below the coverline. I'm 39w tomorrow so I guess it didn't matter.

Step away from the thermometer and pee sticks. Your temp is going to fluctuate some, that is normal. The hormones aren't steady, plus peoples temps fluctuate some anyways. The shade of the pee stick can vary as well amt of dye, dilution of pee.

Exactly this. Temping isn't going to be accurate at this point because of the fluctuating hormones. I know waiting stinks, but the best thing to do is just wait for your labs to come back and take it one step at a time. Worrying isn't going to change the outcome either way, unfortunately.

  • I wouldn't add progesterone just on a whim, ask your doctor to run the p4 when they run your beta if you are concerned with progesterone.

While your temp dropped, it's still above your pre-O temps so I wouldn't get too concerned.  Hopefully the bloodwork puts you at ease!

  • ((hugs)) Obviously your worry is normal, but you've got to step away from the thermometer! It's just not going to be accurate when you figure in the hormones and the stress/worry you are attaching to it. Right now, you've just got to breathe!

Will you get the results of your lab work today? If so, I would wait to see what they are and get direction from your doc on the progesterone. If not, I would ask your doc if you should go ahead and start supplements after you get the blood work done, for peace of mind if nothing else.

I'll echo PP's advice to step away from temping/pee sticks/Dr. Google.  Please listen to Shay here too.  Ask for the progesterone test.  Hang in there Anita!

  • Thank you thank you thank you.

Went in to get my blood drawn this morning and since my Dr had previously said to request they test my progesterone if I get a BFP I did. I don't know when I'll get the results though I will call tomorrow afternoon if I don't hear something sooner.

I did mention when I went in that I was concerned because the test was so faint and my temp dropped. The midwife is supposed to call me today about my concern so whatever she recommends will put my mind at ease. I think I'm just worried that what I if it drops too low even before I have a chance to do anything about it. And I didn't think too much progesterone could throw things out of whack?

So thank you again all for the reassurances. I need to just wait and get the info from my dr/midwife and the test results. It would be great if they came back today but I kind of doubt it. In the meantime I am taking double my prenatal vitamin. I don't know if that matters but I figure the more nutrients my body has to make the needed hormones the better I hope.

Thanks again all and sorry for stressing out so much.

IMO - If you need progesterone, it is much better to get prescription for progesterone from your doctor and not just some random supplement from GNC. If cost is an issue and you do need progesterone supplementation, ask for compounded suppositories.. those seem to be the cheapest form of progesterone by far and are still very effective.

Thank you Shay that makes sense the dr will know how much I may need, what form etc vs just picking up something marketed for the masses. Thanks again.

  • Yes, my temps dropped after my second pregnancy.  I did eventually lose that pregnancy, at about 10 weeks, but it wasn't a chemical pregnancy, and I don't think the loss had anything to do with body temperature.  Like you said, I just don't think temperature is a good indicator of anything, too many factors are at play (what the room temperature is, how much sleep you got, what your stress levels/hormone levels are, etc.).

As far as supplementing with natural progesterone, definitely talk to you doctor! I haven't heard much of anything about natural supplements, except reading that they don't really do anything, especially if you're already pregnant.  Is your doctor not open to giving you progesterone supplements?  I remember feeling so panicked about this, as well.  Even if it was just placebo effect, I got great comfort from taking progesterone (and I was on a small dose, just 200 mg orally, much less than most women).   I started the progesterone right after I ovulated, if I remember.

    Fingers crossed for you!!

  • Thanks again all... Spoke with my midwife. I believe she is going to give me a progesterone prescription tomorrow "it couldn't hurt" was what she said. But I really think its already too late now. I'm having some pretty heavy cramping. It was just light but it feels like its getting worse. I am sure I will start bleeding tomorrow. I guess there's still hope it will work out but I would be really, really shocked. Thanks again for everyones support and advice.
